Victor saw the end of an era for Alpine Log Homes. Alpine, which has been in business for 70 years, spent most of its time located just north of Victor. Today it was auctioned of one piece at a time to the highest bidder.

Starting at 10am, the auction had over 250 registered people bidding on items. There were many more people though, as several brought friends, family and pets. Though the auction itself was happening at a fast pace, the spectators were enjoying the sunny day.

The auction was professionally conducted by Missoula's Gardner's Auction. It was scheduled to take all day, and Gardner's had brought a food trailer to provide lunch and snacks throughout the day.

A quick look at license plates showed people coming from all over Montana, and Idaho. Several brought trailers in anticipation of winning a bid on several large pieces of equipment and several hundred logs.

The size of the auction, was such that Gardner's setup its auction platform in the back of truck, and drove from lot to lot. They had several people holding up items, passing out winnings and generally being helpful.

There were many good deals to be had. One lucky fellow picked up 4 - 20" Husqvarna 455 Rancher chainsaws for $375 a piece. They would sell new for around $425.

The auction had people in and out all morning, several making trips to vehicles to drop off bounty, others just looking to see what was left. Kids played, dogs barked, and slowly, piece by piece Alpine Log Homes was no more.

So sad to see Alpine Log Homes go out of business. We cherish our Alpine home and all of the memories and moments shared with the staff in creating our wonderful home. We feel very fortunate to have a piece of history that continues to "house" memories year after year for our family. What a tragic loss to the log home industry!

Alpine Log Homes was one of the best custom builders in the industry and their homes of the highest quality anywhere. I am really saddened by this news.
